Understanding how consumers see a brand is essential for building stronger strategies and increasing long-term engagement. To explore this, we conducted a primary research study included a sample of 82 participants, all organic consumers or occasional organic buyers, focused on Biocoop, one of France’s most established organic retail brands. The study combined survey results and short interviews to understand how consumers globally perceive Biocoop.

Across differing age ranges, 60% of respondents were female while 40% responded as male. The income levels of our sample included 15% of participants identifying themselves as low-income; 55% identified as medium-income; 30% identified as high-income. Based on their lifestyle habits, the majority of our participants demonstrated strong eco-consciousness through 38% identifying as vegetarian or flexitarian; 72% stating they are environmentally conscious; and 82% regularly purchasing locally grown and/or organic products.

Brand Recognition: How Well Do Consumers Know Biocoop ?

Brand awareness of Biocoop is remarkably strong. Indeed, 60% recognized the brand spontaneously and 92% recognized the brand when prompted.

When asked to describe Biocoop in a few words, respondents frequently mentioned:

  • “Organic and trustworthy products”
  • “High ethical standards”
  • “Local producers”
  • “Eco-friendly approach”

 

 

Consumption Habits: How Consumers Use Biocoop ?

Surveys confirm Biocoop appeals to the widest variety of customers, many of whom are also use purchasing patterns different from each other: 28% of respondents said they visit Biocoop once a week, 47% monthly or every other month, and 25% only occasionally (e.g., once or twice a year). Reasons for shopping at Biocoop demonstrate its ethical positioning, with the most common reasons stated were (in order) high product quality (78%) and cooperative ethical values (65%); other motivating factors to shop at Biocoop include zero wastage options (58%), support of local producers (52%), and food safety/transparency (50%). Overall, Biocoop has established its reputation as a reputable and responsible retailer in the minds of consumers.

Satisfaction Levels: How Do Consumers Feel About Biocoop ?

Based on consumer feedback, customers generally report high levels of satisfaction with Biocoop, with an average satisfaction score of 8.1 out of 10. These customers expressed appreciation for Biocoop's high quality and freshness of products as well as Biocoop's dependable sources. Many customers enjoy the nice and calm store environment and convenience of buying bulk. The survey uncovered areas of weakness for Biocoop, including (1) high prices as selected by 63% of participants, (2) limited variety of ready-to-eat or quick meals, and (3) some stores being perceived as poor quality. Together, these insights point to a generally positive customer experience, while revealing opportunities for Biocoop to better meet evolving consumer expectations.

The survey results indicate that Biocoop continues to be the most highly respected and trusted organic grocery store among consumers due to its excellent reputation for ethical practices and product quality. Where Biocoop's reputation for ethical behaviour and product quality were rated higher than Carrefour Bio; however, consumers perceived Carrefour Bio as offering greater convenience and better pricing. Survey respondents indicated that Biocoop was viewed as being more credible and committed than Naturalia; whereas Naturalia's appearance is perceived to be more contemporary and geared towards impulsive purchases. When comparing Biocoop to La Vie Claire, Biocoop ranked above La Vie Claire in terms of product quality and ethical behaviour. Comparatively speaking, Biocoop would be considered to be the most sustainable and trustworthy of all the mainstream grocery stores; however, according to many consumers there remain challenges to their ability to purchase items from Biocoop when considering issues relating to convenience and cost. Comparing Biocoop to its competitors supports the likelihood that Biocoop is a leader in this market and a positive brand because of its integrity and reliability.
